Trump International Scotland is building a championship links golf course, a clubhouse, driving range, practice area, 450-bedroom hotel, 950 holiday apartments, 36 golf villas and 500 residential homes on a strip of coastline in Aberdeenshire. It will be “the best in the world” according to Trump, and he believes the area is so spectacular it needs renaming as well.
Known as Menie Dunes for the past 600 years, Trump wants to call the land “The Great Dunes of Scotland.” The name is meant to honor his Scottish mother, however local residents who believe he is being arrogant and to protect the historic name have formed a protest group called ‘Tripping Up Trump’ and are striving to make business difficult for the billionaire. They have been buying land from his opponent, Michael Forbes, and sharing ownership among many individuals in order to make any purchases very complicated.
